Bushcraft & Survival Weekend Experience

Throughout the weekend, under the guidance of our experienced instructors, you will practice various bushcraft and survival techniques, learn how to camp sympathetically, and understand the wildlife and natural world around us. Leaving nothing but footprints, and taking away only memories.  Our weekend is not a test of endurance.  Delicious meals,  expertly cooked on the campfire are also included as part of the wilderness cookery experience. You’re welcome to bring your own tent to use too.

 

Our weekend begins on Friday evening. After a welcome brief, we will head into the woodland and locate bushcraft basecamp, keeping a good lookout for our resident deers who roam our woodland.  For the first night, you will sleep under a bushcraft tarp, a truly, wonderful experience, and a great opportunity to tune in to your surroundings. From the start, we will teach you how to camp sympathetically, with minimal impact on your environment and wildlife. Leaving only footprints, and taking away just your memories. Tonight’s meal will be  ‘Forest fish and chips. (Vegetarian options are available) – Rainbow trout prepared and cooked using a traditional CanadianFish flag method. The rest of the evening will be spent around the campfire, discussing essential kits we should carry with us on our adventures, and how it should be used.

Saturday morning;

We begin with an introduction to campfire baking – Your first task will be preparing and baking Bannock bread for breakfast.  Steeped in history and still real staple food to many indigenous people. served with a variety of local, Yorkshire-made jams and spreads. After breakfast, we will move on to water purification. Identifying safe drinking water sources and practicing a variety of purifying methods.  For the remainder of the day, you will be building your very own primitive shelter, under the guidance of our expert instructors. . You will make your own shelter using only natural materials found in the woodland. In this scenario, we will include knife and Axe skills too. We encourage everyone to sleep out in their newly built shelters, living the way humans once did is a truly unforgettable experience, and brings you closer to nature.

For lunch,  A heartwarming rabbit casserole, served with Warm and crusty Ash bread – Cooked in the embers of the fire – An ancient technique that is still used all over the world today.  (**Vegetarian options are available, please advise at the time of booking**). Each participant will be shown how to prepare and cook their lunch. After lunch, we will head off further into the woodland for a sit, spot, and tracking session. This gives us the opportunity to identify the different calls, sounds, and behaviors of various animals before we return back to finishing off our shelters. 

The rest of the afternoon will be spent learning and practicing various primitive fire lighting methods, including the Bow drill, hand drill, and much more.  Tonight’s meal will be a feathered game, cooked using a Norwegian cookery method.  The Game will be sourced from the Yorkshire Dales and served with local seasonal vegetables. Our evening will be spent relaxing around the campfire including a Q & A with your instructors. 

 

Sunday morning;  Begins with a final go at fire-making. Only this morning, it will be for real. Once you have harnessed the ember and made fire a hearty breakfast of farmhouse porridge will be served with a variety of toppings and a pint of Yorkshire tea. It’s then time to pack up and head back to our RV point for photographs and farewells. 

 

You may arrive as strangers, but you will leave as friends. Our experience is open to everyone – Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Vegetarian options can be catered for.
