SUMMARY:Bushcraft Weekend experience
DESCRIPTION:Our weekend begins on Friday evening. After a welcome brief\, we will head into the woodland and locate Bushcraft basecamp\, keeping a good lookout for our resident deer who frequently wander by.  For the first night\, you will sleep under a Bushcraft tarp\, a wonderful experience\, and a great opportunity to tune in to your surroundings. Tonight’s meal will be ‘forest fish and chips. Rainbow trout prepared and cooked using a traditional Canadian method. The rest of the evening will be spent around the campfire\, discussing the various uses for each piece of equipment we are carrying.  \n  \n” The more knowledge you carry\, the less equipment you’ll need” \n  \nSaturday morning begins with an introduction to campfire baking. This morning we will bake delicious bread\, served with a variety of jams and spreads. We also include an introduction to water purification and safety. After breakfast\, it’s time for primitive shelter building. You will make your own shelter using only natural materials found in the woodland. In this scenario\, we will include knife and Axe skills too. We encourage everyone to sleep out in their newly built shelters\, living the way we humans once did is a truly unforgettable experience.  \n  \n” Mother nature provides everything we need to survive and thrive\, we just need to know where to look” \n  \nTime for lunch. On the menu is rabbit casserole *(Vegetarian options are available\, please advise at the time of booking). Each participant will be shown how to prepare their lunch. After lunch\, we will head off further into the woodland for a sit\, spot\, and tracking session. This gives us the opportunity to identify the different calls\, sounds\, and behaviors of various animals. The rest of the afternoon will be spent learning and practicing various primitive fire lighting methods\, including the fire bow methods. Tonight’s meal will be a feathered game sourced from the Yorkshire Dales and served with local seasonal vegetables. Our evening will be spent relaxing around the campfire including a Q & A with your instructors.  \n  \nSunday morning begins with a final go at fire-making. Only this morning\, it will be for real. Once you have harnessed the ember and made fire a hearty breakfast of farmhouse porridge will be served with a variety of toppings. It’s then time to pack up and head back to our RV point.  \n  \nYou may arrive as strangers\, but you will leave as friends. Our experience is open to 18 years plus. You will not be expected to do anything you don’t want to. Vegetarian options can be catered for.  \n  \n** Please note. Our base camp is primitive\, offering that true connection to nature. We have a compost toilet and a tree-hung solar shower is also provided. Our dedicated team covers field hygiene in our welcome brief.

Tonight’s meal will be  ‘Forest fish and chips. (Vegetarian options are available) – Rainbow trout prepared and cooked using a traditional CanadianFish flag method. Each participant will be shown how to prepare and cook their lunch. After lunch\, we will head off further into the woodland for a sit\, spot\, and tracking session. This gives us the opportunity to identify the different calls\, sounds\, and behaviors of various animals before we return back to finishing off our shelters.  \nThe rest of the afternoon will be spent learning and practicing various primitive fire lighting methods\, including the Bow drill\, hand drill\, and much more.  Tonight’s meal will be a feathered game\, cooked using a Norwegian cookery method.  The Game will be sourced from the Yorkshire Dales and served with local seasonal vegetables. Our evening will be spent relaxing around the campfire including a Q & A with your instructors.  \n  \nSunday morning;  Begins with a final go at fire-making. Only this morning\, it will be for real. Once you have harnessed the ember and made fire a hearty breakfast of farmhouse porridge will be served with a variety of toppings and a pint of Yorkshire tea. Waterproofs\, spare clothing\, camera\, packed lunch and drinking water are all essential.  \n  \nRecommended age:  \nWe suggest 7 upwards but leave it up to parental discretion. Younger children are very welcome to attend.  \n  \nCOVID 19: We will be following all guidelines set out by the government. Our woodland is large enough to accommodate social distancing.

Throughout each day our experienced instructors will teach a variety of Bushcraft and survival skills in a fun and informative manner.  \n  \nTimes:   9am – 3pm  \n  \nDates:    2nd September 2020 \n  \nWhat do I need to bring?   \nPlease dress for the great British weather. Waterproofs\, spare clothing\, camera\, packed lunch and drinking water are all essential.  \n  \nRecommended age:  \nWe suggest 7 upwards but leave it up to parental discretion. Younger children are very welcome to attend.  \n  \nCOVID 19: We will be following all guidelines set out by the government. Our woodland is large enough to accommodate social distancing.

In this workshop\, we will be looking at\, and practising ancient preparation and cookery methods. All of the food will be cooked using our open fire. \nBushtucker kitchen challenge – Sample the delights that mother nature has to offer. If you dare!\n\n  \nMedieval style Banquet Dinner – Dining By Campfire \nOn Saturday and Sunday evening we will be hosting a Medieval Banquet dinner\, suitable for all of the family. SUMMARY:Focus on Firelighting Course (age 12+)
DESCRIPTION:Our Focus on Firelighting courses give you the opportunity to have time dedicated to learning the skill of firelighting in the wild. We will meet in our woodland and after introductions we will discuss the history of fire and how it has enhanced our species before having a go at building our own firepits and trying out several different methods of firelighting. We will cook lunch together over the group fire\, learning how to use the flames to cook our own fish (please inform us of an dietary requirements upon booking).  Over the course of the day we will cover the following: \nFire safety  \nThe science of fire – what do we need to start a fire and why \nNatural tinders – using materials native to the woodland we will discover which plants can be useful in providing us with natural tinders to start fires when out in different environments. \nFire lays and fire pits – a crucial part of firelighting in the wild – learn how to create a good firepit in windy conditions and how to build an effective firelay for a roaring flame.  \nFire by friction – using the primitive Fire Bow (or bow drill) we will discover how friction can be used to make fire. This is a difficult skill to acquire\, which demands patience and teamwork\, but under the careful guidance of our staff you will soon be transfixed on the task of making your fire.  \nFire strikers  – using ferrocerium rods to create your ignition\, we will learn which plants in the woods can be used to light fires in all conditions. \nSolar firelighting – if weather conditions allow we will practice using the energy from the sun to create a flame. \nTime dependent we may also have the opportunity to demonstrate to you other methods of firelighting. \nThis will be an interactive and informative day for all who want time to explore firelighting in detail and is likely to book up fast.

DESCRIPTION:Come and join our experienced team in the woods to learn primitive and survival skills. We have a variety of days available from our Introduction to Bushcraft days\, where you will cover a variety of skills over the day\, or look at our other events for more depth on specific bushcraft skills.\n\n\n \n\n\n \n\n\nWe will gather back together around the campfire to prepare and eat the evening meal together as a group (all food provided) – this can vary from game preparation to woodland curry and fire-baked naan bread. On clear evenings we will have the chance to discuss how the stars were used to help our ancestors navigate and identify key constellations in the night sky. Hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows finish off the evening before we retire to our beds for the night. Those brave enough have the option to sleep out your shelter made earlier in the day\, or bring your own tent or upgrade to stay in our group bell-tent. \n\n\n \n\n\n\nIn the morning you will be able to enjoy the peace of the woodland far from all your cares\, while our instructors prepare you a delicious breakfast of bacon and egg sandwiches before we pack up our kit and say our farewells.

Whether you are an experienced camper or this will be your first experience\, let our team welcome you for an unforgettable family evening in our woodland.  \nAs the night draws in we will keep warm around a roaring campfire and prepare a delicious meal on the flames for everyone to enjoy and learn some simple knife skills to prepare sticks to toast marshmallows and toffee apples for a delicious desert. If the night is clear we will have to opportunity to learn about the stars and how to use the night sky to navigate\, alongside having a go at creating fire by friction and some woodland crafts before snuggling up in our sleeping bags. \nAfter a restful night’s sleep we will light the fire and prepare a warming breakfast together before learning about primitive shelter building. The experience will end at 10am. \nIncluded in your price is camping for up to 4 people\, an evening meal\, hot chocolate and marshmallows\, breakfast and the unique knowledge of our instructors.  \nPlease ensure you bring warm clothing and a suitable torch as the woods will be dark.
