SUMMARY:Island of Rum Coastal Survival Expedition 2022
DESCRIPTION:Join our 3rd Coastal Survival Expedition on one of the most beautiful islands in the world. No experience necessary. This weekend is not a test of endurance\, it’s an opportunity for everyone to learn and practice essential coastal survival techniques. Rum is renowned for its sheer beauty and diverse collection of wildlife. From its resident Deer population to soaring eagles and the majestic Whales and sharks who roam the seas around this little Gem of an island. The Island is steeped in history and on our expedition\, we will see some of the oldest human settlements in Scotland. \n  \nWe will immerse ourselves into the wilderness\, forage for our meals\, catch fish and crabs and learn how to live self sufficiently on the shores of the island. This weekend is open to absolute beginners. Our experienced staff will guide you through and offer continuous support throughout. As part of the experience\, we will be wild camping for x2 nights\, this will require a 4.8-mile walk on a relatively flat track. Don’t worry if it’s your first time camping\, our guides will cover all the essential skills needed.  \n  \n  \n  \n\n                                                                                                                                                Our itinerary   \n  \nDay 1 – Meet and greet at the ferry Port in Mallaig. We Arrive on the island shortly after lunch. Once our welcome brief is finished\, We will move on to establishing our basecamp for our first night on the island. You will be shown how to build primitive shelters and use tarps and hammocks correctly. As we progress into the evening\, we will demonstrate a variety of fishing techniques. We will also take this opportunity to bait up our lobster pots\, in the hope of a good harvest on our return.  \n\nDay 2 – After a good\, hearty expedition-style breakfast\, we will start our beautiful walk of just under 5 miles to our first wild camping location. We have carefully selected this location for its sheer natural beauty and remoteness. In clear weather\, I have seen some of the most beautiful star constellations\, including the milky way. En route\, we are sure to see the wild Deer and goats\, roaming free in the nature reserve. On arrival at our location\, we will establish our basecamp\, learning about our environment. Keeping a good lookout for Whale and Shark fins on the open ocean.  As a team\, we will learn to prioritize our survival tasks living by the 3 basic rules of survival. We will use our foraging skills and newly acquired fishing techniques to supplement our supply of food. As the evening draws in\, we will enjoy learning about the stars\, and how we can use them as part of our natural navigation.  \n\nDay 3 – We will pack up our wild camp nice and early and return it back to nature. After enjoying a lovely breakfast\, we will retrace our footsteps back to the village of Kinloch. Stopping for lunch\, with a stunning view of the island and beyond. We return to basecamp where Showers and running water are just a couple of minutes walk away.   After a couple of hours of rest\, we will head off to check our lobster pots and have another chance to fish from the shores. The rest of the afternoon can be spent at your leisure\, exploring the village and castle. Whilst your away exploring\, our team will be preparing a delicious feast\, for tonight’s banquet dinner.  \nDress code: The loudest\, most colourful shirt and hat you can find! Our evening will be spent around the fireplace\, enjoying each other’s company and tales of our adventures. Don’t forget a bottle of your favourite tipple.  \n\nDay 4 – It’s your time to explore.  You have the day to visit the castle and gift shops\, and to do some wildlife spotting from the Otter hide\,  before packing up and bidding a farewell to this gorgeous island.  \n  \n\nWhat’s included?  \n\nReturn boat travel ( From Mallaig to Rum)\nAll meals – Please bring any additional snacks or rations you require.\n1x nights wild camping\n2x Nights at the campsite\nAll tuition and workshops\nBanquet dinner on the last evening\nAll fishing gear\n\n** Expedition T-shirts can be purchased for a small additional cost. **

After a welcome brief\, we will head into the woodland and locate Bushcraft basecamp\, keeping a good lookout for our resident deer who frequently wander by.  For the first night\, you will sleep under a Bushcraft tarp\, a wonderful experience\, and a great opportunity to tune in to your surroundings. Tonight’s meal will be ‘forest fish and chips. Rainbow trout prepared and cooked using a traditional Canadian method. The rest of the evening will be spent around the campfire\, discussing the various uses for each piece of equipment we are carrying.  \n  \n” The more knowledge you carry\, the less equipment you’ll need” \n  \nSaturday morning begins with an introduction to campfire baking. This morning we will bake delicious bread\, served with a variety of jams and spreads. We also include an introduction to water purification and safety. After breakfast\, it’s time for primitive shelter building. You will make your own shelter using only natural materials found in the woodland. In this scenario\, we will include knife and Axe skills too. We encourage everyone to sleep out in their newly built shelters\, living the way we humans once did is a truly unforgettable experience.  \n  \n” Mother nature provides everything we need to survive and thrive\, we just need to know where to look” \n  \nTime for lunch. On the menu is rabbit casserole *(Vegetarian options are available\, please advise at the time of booking). Each participant will be shown how to prepare their lunch. After lunch\, we will head off further into the woodland for a sit\, spot\, and tracking session. This gives us the opportunity to identify the different calls\, sounds\, and behaviors of various animals. The rest of the afternoon will be spent learning and practicing various primitive fire lighting methods\, including the fire bow methods. Tonight’s meal will be a feathered game sourced from the Yorkshire Dales and served with local seasonal vegetables. Our evening will be spent relaxing around the campfire including a Q & A with your instructors.  \n  \nSunday morning begins with a final go at fire-making. Only this morning\, it will be for real. Once you have harnessed the ember and made fire a hearty breakfast of farmhouse porridge will be served with a variety of toppings. It’s then time to pack up and head back to our RV point.  \n  \nYou may arrive as strangers\, but you will leave as friends. Our experience is open to 18 years plus. After a welcome brief\, we will head into the woodland and locate bushcraft basecamp\, keeping a good lookout for our resident deers who roam our woodland.  For the first night\, you will sleep under a bushcraft tarp\, a truly\, wonderful experience\, and a great opportunity to tune in to your surroundings. From the start\, we will teach you how to camp sympathetically\, with minimal impact on your environment and wildlife. Leaving only footprints\, and taking away just your memories. Tonight’s meal will be  ‘Forest fish and chips. (Vegetarian options are available) – Rainbow trout prepared and cooked using a traditional CanadianFish flag method. SUMMARY:Bushcraft & Survival Weekend Experience
DESCRIPTION:  \nSORRY\, THIS EVENT HAS NOW SOLD OUT – Please check out our events page for more exciting events running throughout 2021 & 2022.  \nThroughout the weekend you will practice various Bushcraft and survival techniques\, under the guidance of our experienced instructors. Our weekend is not a test of endurance and meals are provided on this course as part of the wilderness cookery experience.  \n  \nOur weekend begins on Friday evening. After a welcome brief\, we will head into the woodland and locate Bushcraft basecamp\, keeping a good lookout for our resident deer who frequently wander on by.  For the first night\, you will sleep under a Bushcraft tarp\, a wonderful experience\, and a great opportunity to tune in to your surroundings. Tonight’s meal will be ‘forest fish and chips’. Rainbow trout prepared and cooked using a traditional Canadian method. The rest of the evening will be spent around the campfire\, discussing the various uses for each piece of equipment we are carrying.  \n  \n” The more knowledge you carry\, the less equipment you’ll need” \n  \nSaturday morning begins with an introduction to campfire baking. This morning we will bake delicious bread\, served with a variety of jams and spreads. We also include an introduction to water purification and safety. After breakfast\, it’s time for primitive shelter building. You will make your own shelter using only natural materials found in the woodland. In this scenario\, we will include knife and Axe skills too. We encourage everyone to sleep out in their newly built shelters\, living the way we humans once did is a truly unforgettable experience.  \n  \n” Mother nature provides everything we need to survive and thrive\, we just need to know where to look” \n  \nTime for lunch. On the menu is rabbit casserole *(Vegetarian options are available\, please advise at the time of booking). Each participant will be shown how to prepare their lunch. After lunch\, we will head off further into the woodland for a sit\, spot and tracking session. This gives us the opportunity to identify the different calls\, sounds\, and behaviours of various animals. The rest of the afternoon will be spent learning and practicing various primitive fire lighting methods\, including the fire bow methods. Tonight’s meal will be a feathered game sourced from the Yorkshire Dales and served with local seasonal vegetables. Our evening will be spent relaxing around the campfire including a Q & A with your instructors.  \n  \nSunday morning begins with a final go at fire-making. Only this morning\, it will be for real. Once you have harnessed the ember and made fire a hearty breakfast of farmhouse porridge will be served with a variety of toppings. It’s then time to pack up and head back to our RV point.  \n  \nYou may arrive as strangers\, but you will leave as friends. Our experience is open to 18 years plus. You will not be expected to do anything you don’t want to. Vegetarian options can be catered for.  \n  \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:***WANTED***  Organic\, Free-range Kids! \nOur very popular summer holiday club has returned. A full day of wilderness fun and learning awaits everyone. Gather around the campfire\, make new friends and enjoy the great outdoors. Throughout each day our experienced instructors will teach a variety of bushcraft and survival skills in a fun and informative manner.  \n  \nTimes: 9 am – 3 pm  \n  \nDates:  26th\, 27th\, 28th October 2020 \n  \nWhat do I need to bring?  \nPlease dress for the great British weather. Waterproofs\, spare clothing\, camera\, packed lunch and drinking water are all essential.  \n  \nRecommended age:  \nWe suggest 7 upwards but leave it up to parental discretion. Younger children are very welcome to attend.  \n  \nCOVID 19: We will be following all guidelines set out by the government. Our woodland is large enough to accommodate social distancing.
