As dinner cooks\, take a moment to tune into the peaceful surroundings and choose where you’ll sleep for the night. Bring along a small tent or hammock\, or\, if you’re up for a wilder experience\, get ready to build your own shelter on Saturday\, where you can spend a cozy night under the stars. \n  \nSaturday: Learn\, Build\, Thrive \nSaturday kicks off with an introduction to the essential rules of survival\, where our expert instructors will share their knowledge of thriving in a woodland environment. You’ll delve into the art of shelter building\, master ancient fire-crafting techniques\, and develop wilderness cooking skills. As evening approaches\, we’ll journey to a nearby lake to fish for our dinner\, with vegetarian and vegan options thoughtfully provided. The night is spent around the campfire\, enjoying a hearty supper and relaxing beneath the canopy of the trees. \n  \nSunday: Relaxation & water filtration. \nA much slower paced morning\, after enjoying our campfire breakfast\, We’ll  look at different methods for collecting safe drinking water in the wild—an invaluable skill for any adventurer. If its your first time camping that’s amazing too\, our experienced guides will be on hand to help you every step of the way.  \n**Please don’t bring huge family tents\, we don’t have enough space. \n  \n \n  \nToilets & showers \nWe have an onsite toilet block which is around a 6 minute walk from the woodland. We have a solar shower installed in the trees for your comfort. For ease\, we always advise you to carry some baby wipes for your comfort. The toilet block is open 24hrs and has hot running water.  \n  \n \nFAQ’S\nI’m a Solo traveler\, can I attend?  Of course\, a lot of our attendees are solo travelers. It’s a great way to meet new people.  \n  \nI have a disability\, can I attend?  Of course\, our team will be on hand to make your experience as comfortable as possible. If you require accommodation locally\, our reservations team would be happy to organize this for you. Our support vehicle will be on hand for drop off and pick up at each workshop location. The terrain around basecamp is a little uneven\, but we do have some good access points.  \n  \nI have specific dietary needs\, is this going to be ok? Sure. Just let us know at the time of booking\, and we will make sure your are looked after.  \n  \nI have never done anything like this before do I need experience? Absolutely NOT. Everyone is welcome around the campfire. Its an opportunity to get together\, learn ew skills and enjoy reconnecting with the great outdoors. Our highly experienced staff will be on hand to guide you through\, every step of the way.  \n  \nOver 18’s only. All dietary needs can be catered for. SUMMARY:Island of Rum Coastal Survival Expedition 2022
DESCRIPTION:Join our 3rd Coastal Survival Expedition on one of the most beautiful islands in the world. No experience necessary. This weekend is not a test of endurance\, it’s an opportunity for everyone to learn and practice essential coastal survival techniques. Rum is renowned for its sheer beauty and diverse collection of wildlife. From its resident Deer population to soaring eagles and the majestic Whales and sharks who roam the seas around this little Gem of an island. The Island is steeped in history and on our expedition\, we will see some of the oldest human settlements in Scotland. \n  \nWe will immerse ourselves into the wilderness\, forage for our meals\, catch fish and crabs and learn how to live self sufficiently on the shores of the island. This weekend is open to absolute beginners. Our experienced staff will guide you through and offer continuous support throughout. As part of the experience\, we will be wild camping for x2 nights\, this will require a 4.8-mile walk on a relatively flat track. Don’t worry if it’s your first time camping\, our guides will cover all the essential skills needed.  \n  \n  \n  \n\n                                                                                                                                                Our itinerary   \n  \nDay 1 – Meet and greet at the ferry Port in Mallaig. We Arrive on the island shortly after lunch. Once our welcome brief is finished\, We will move on to establishing our basecamp for our first night on the island. You will be shown how to build primitive shelters and use tarps and hammocks correctly. As we progress into the evening\, we will demonstrate a variety of fishing techniques. We will also take this opportunity to bait up our lobster pots\, in the hope of a good harvest on our return.  \n\nDay 2 – After a good\, hearty expedition-style breakfast\, we will start our beautiful walk of just under 5 miles to our first wild camping location. We have carefully selected this location for its sheer natural beauty and remoteness. In clear weather\, I have seen some of the most beautiful star constellations\, including the milky way. En route\, we are sure to see the wild Deer and goats\, roaming free in the nature reserve. On arrival at our location\, we will establish our basecamp\, learning about our environment. Keeping a good lookout for Whale and Shark fins on the open ocean.  As a team\, we will learn to prioritize our survival tasks living by the 3 basic rules of survival. We will use our foraging skills and newly acquired fishing techniques to supplement our supply of food. As the evening draws in\, we will enjoy learning about the stars\, and how we can use them as part of our natural navigation.  \n\nDay 3 – We will pack up our wild camp nice and early and return it back to nature. After enjoying a lovely breakfast\, we will retrace our footsteps back to the village of Kinloch. Stopping for lunch\, with a stunning view of the island and beyond. We return to basecamp where Showers and running water are just a couple of minutes walk away.   After a couple of hours of rest\, we will head off to check our lobster pots and have another chance to fish from the shores. The rest of the afternoon can be spent at your leisure\, exploring the village and castle. Whilst your away exploring\, our team will be preparing a delicious feast\, for tonight’s banquet dinner.  \nDress code: The loudest\, most colourful shirt and hat you can find! Our evening will be spent around the fireplace\, enjoying each other’s company and tales of our adventures. After a welcome brief\, we will head into the woodland and locate bushcraft basecamp\, keeping a good lookout for our resident deers who roam our woodland.  For the first night\, you will sleep under a bushcraft tarp\, a truly\, wonderful experience\, and a great opportunity to tune in to your surroundings. From the start\, we will teach you how to camp sympathetically\, with minimal impact on your environment and wildlife. Leaving only footprints\, and taking away just your memories. Identifying safe drinking water sources and practicing a variety of purifying methods.  For the remainder of the day\, you will be building your very own primitive shelter\, under the guidance of our expert instructors. . You will make your own shelter using only natural materials found in the woodland. In this scenario\, we will include knife and Axe skills too. SUMMARY:Focus on Firelighting Course (age 12+)
DESCRIPTION:Our Focus on Firelighting courses give you the opportunity to have time dedicated to learning the skill of firelighting in the wild. We will meet in our woodland and after introductions we will discuss the history of fire and how it has enhanced our species before having a go at building our own firepits and trying out several different methods of firelighting. We will cook lunch together over the group fire\, learning how to use the flames to cook our own fish (please inform us of an dietary requirements upon booking).  Over the course of the day we will cover the following: \nFire safety  \nThe science of fire – what do we need to start a fire and why \nNatural tinders – using materials native to the woodland we will discover which plants can be useful in providing us with natural tinders to start fires when out in different environments. \nFire lays and fire pits – a crucial part of firelighting in the wild – learn how to create a good firepit in windy conditions and how to build an effective firelay for a roaring flame.  \nFire by friction – using the primitive Fire Bow (or bow drill) we will discover how friction can be used to make fire. This is a difficult skill to acquire\, which demands patience and teamwork\, but under the careful guidance of our staff you will soon be transfixed on the task of making your fire.  \nFire strikers  – using ferrocerium rods to create your ignition\, we will learn which plants in the woods can be used to light fires in all conditions. \nSolar firelighting – if weather conditions allow we will practice using the energy from the sun to create a flame. \nTime dependent we may also have the opportunity to demonstrate to you other methods of firelighting. \nThis will be an interactive and informative day for all who want time to explore firelighting in detail and is likely to book up fast.

SUMMARY:Adults Overnight Bushcraft Camp
DESCRIPTION:Come and join our experienced team in the woods to learn primitive and survival skills. We have a variety of days available from our Introduction to Bushcraft days\, where you will cover a variety of skills over the day\, or look at our other events for more depth on specific bushcraft skills.\n\n\n \n\n\n \n\n\nWe will gather back together around the campfire to prepare and eat the evening meal together as a group (all food provided) – this can vary from game preparation to woodland curry and fire-baked naan bread. On clear evenings we will have the chance to discuss how the stars were used to help our ancestors navigate and identify key constellations in the night sky. Hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows finish off the evening before we retire to our beds for the night. Those brave enough have the option to sleep out your shelter made earlier in the day\, or bring your own tent or upgrade to stay in our group bell-tent. \n\n\n \n\n\n\nIn the morning you will be able to enjoy the peace of the woodland far from all your cares\, while our instructors prepare you a delicious breakfast of bacon and egg sandwiches before we pack up our kit and say our farewells.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for our NEW family campfire experience. \nOn this evening you will be invited to join us around the campfire for a unique experience. Dining under the starlit sky in the middle of our woodland\, surrounded by fairy lights\, you and your loved ones will be treated to a two course dinner cooked on our campfire. Learn how to prepare and cook fish over the flames as our in house expert guides you through the process\, before sitting down at our candlelit table to enjoy your meal. \nThis will be a relaxed evening\, with plenty of time to get to know your fellow diners and enjoy your surroundings.  \nExample menu: \nFire roasted spatchcock chicken\nPonassed salmon cooked over the flames\nRoast vegetables \nCampfire churros with chocolate dipping sauce \nHot chocolate and marshmallows \nPlease let us know when you book if you have any dietary requirements or allergies that need to be considered in our menu planning and preparation.  \nThings to bring \nWater will be provided\, however\, please feel free to bring your own beverages to accompany your meal. \nA torch will be essential for making your way to and from the dining area and toilet facilities. Our staff will meet you at the carpark entrance.\nThe woodland can be very muddy at this time of year – please ensure you have appropriate footwear and clothing.  \nPlease note: resources and facilities in the woodland are limited. We embrace a more primitive lifestyle during our time in the woodland. Toilet and handwashing facilities are provided\, but please be aware they are of a ‘rustic’ nature. Our car park can get boggy at times – we try our best to avoid having to cancel events due to this\, so please be aware you may be asked to find an appropriate parking space on the lanes nearby and walk a short distance to the woodland.

DESCRIPTION:A great introduction to the basics of survival skills – on this course you will learn how to create simple survival shelters\, light your own fires using friction and prepare some food on the fire. This is a fantastic opportunity to get back to nature and spend some quality time outdoors with like-minded people\, and try out your adventurous side! \nAll bushcraft equipment will be provided – please come appropriately dressed for the weather in clothes suitable for a woodland environment\, and bring something to drink.
