Focus on…shelter building
September 12, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm£69
Our Focus on shelter building day course gives your the time to explore this wilderness skill in more depth than our introductory courses. After meeting our instructors in the woodland, introductions will be made and a full safety brief given. Over the course of the day our experience instructors will teach you how to build a variety of shelters from natural materials and tarps. The day includes a group lunch cooked on the campfire, this may include the opportunity to prepare your own fish or game should you wish (please inform us of any dietary requirements upon booking).
Over the day you will be taught:
Safe tool use – you will be introduced to how to use simple tools safely, including axes, knives and saws, to help you gather material to build a primitive lean-to shelter in the woodland.
Primitive shelter building – the art of building a free-standing lean-to shelter using materials sourced from the woodland. Sufficient time will be given for you to build these to a standard where they would be appropriate shelter to sleep in for the night.
Useful knots – how to tie several key knots that would be useful for creating shelter using lines and tarps.
Tarp shelters – how to secure tarpaulins using knots and lines to build waterproof shelters in the wild.
All activities will be supported by our experienced instructors.
