Bushcraft days for Adults 2020 – Various dates
January 1, 2020 @ 1:39 pm - December 31, 2020 @ 1:39 pm£10 – £129
Come and join our experienced team in the woods to learn primitive and survival skills. We have a variety of days available from our Introduction to Bushcraft days, where you will cover a variety of skills over the day, or look at our other events for more depth on specific bushcraft skills.
No prior experience is necessary, but a willingness to learn and connect with a more slow and basic way of life is essential to getting the most out of this amazing experience.
Our exact schedule may vary depending on the weather and season but a typical format would be:
Upon arrival your will meet your instructors at the woodland and settle into the camp for the day. Your instructors will teach you about the safe use of tools such as axes, saws and knives, before we take you on a walk through our woodland to source natural items from the woodland that will be used to help create our group fire.
Heading back to camp you will use the resources collected to create a fire ready to prepare a hot meal for lunch. For those daring enough, you will have the opportunity to prepare your own fish to cook on the flames using the primitive Canadian Fish Flag method, alongside some delicious vegetables (please inform us of any dietary requirements).
After lunch our instructors will teach you about the need for and history of shelter making. They will then direct you in how to make your own primitive shelters and you will spend some time creating your own shelter from the resources in the woodland.
The afternoon will finish with us channelling our inner caveman chance to experience creating fire by friction and using woodland resources to create our own stone-age art before the day attendees depart.
Those who opt to stay for the overnight experience will then have some down-time to enjoy watching the animals in the woodland and connect with the environment around them in a quiet sit spot.
We will gather back together around the campfire to prepare and eat the evening meal together as a group (all food provided) – this can vary from game preparation to woodland curry and fire-baked naan breads. On clear evenings we will have the chance to discuss how the stars were used to help our ancestors navigate and identify key constellations in the night sky. A hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows finish off the evening before we retire to our beds for the night. Those brave enough have the option to sleep out your shelter made earlier in the day, or bring your own tent or upgrade to stay in our group bell-tent.
In the morning you will be able to enjoy the peace of the woodland far from all your cares, while our instructors prepare you a delicious breakfast of bacon and egg sandwiches before we pack up our kit and say our farewells.
